The Plan of Salvation

The LORD laid out His plan of salvation in the New Testament.  The only way to be saved is to follow the LORD’s instruction on how we are to be saved.  We are to do only what is authorized in Scripture to do.  We know that after we study & come to believe Jesus we are to be baptized.  Being baptized is done with witnesses.  At baptism you confess that Jesus is the Son of God.  You confess that Jesus came to earth to die on the cross in your place taking the punishment you deserve onto Himself.  You also confess that God raised Him up on the 3rd day & that He is your Lord.

Baptism is immersion.  Read the 6th chapter of Romans for a more in depth discussion of this.  To take part of Jesus’ death, burial & resurrection we need to be buried with Him in baptism.  Then, when we are raised up from the baptismal pool, we are raised up new creatures unstained by sin.  We are raised up to newness of life.

This is possible because of the love our Father has for his creation.  This is possible because of the love the Son has for us.  It is possible because of the love that puts the Holy Spirit in us at baptism.  It is possible because of love.  As it says in 1st Corinthians 13:13, "But now faith, hope, love abide these three; but the greatest of these is love"  (NASB)

Worship Service

In the New Testament God laid down how we are to worship Him.  The worship service is to consist of:

1. Singing.  We are not to use instruments in the worship service because God did not authorize them.  He only authorized singing.

2. Prayer.  We are to have & use prayer in the worship service.

3. Teaching.  We are to learn from the Word of God

God is particular about how we are to worship Him.  He put down in the New Testament instructions for us.  It is only from the New Testament that we can get instructions for our worship.

If we use parts of the Old Testament then we need to follow all that the Old Testament says about worship.

When Christ died on the cross the Old Testament no longer carried authority.  It did not have authority over Gentiles.  It is only the New Testament that has authority over Christians.  The Old Testament is to be used as a background for the New Testament.
